Welcome all to Botswana Chess Federation. May I take this opportunity to thank our main sponsor Legal Guard, Debswana, Metropolitan, Travelwise, Just juice without whom it will be almost impossible to run events since we are a non- profit making association.
I would like to tell you that your involvement with chess has a lot of benefits to the nation and the chess community at large as well as elevating the standard of chess in the region.
To the players that are forever participating, thank you all for you are the final nut to bolt the wheel in.
Chess is the sport of imagination and strategies (wars have been won through principles of chess strategies), one that provides rules, order and opportunities for intellectual growth. An effective educational tool at all levels of academic achievement, chess teaches students to think logically and take responsibility for their actions and consequences.
Below are the areas in which your have contributed significantly in developing the nation
- Promoted self-confidence and respect among chess players
- Enhanced problem-solving, logic and reasoning skills among players
- Promoted patience and persistence over the board and off the board
- Improved emotional and mood management
- Lastly, sustained efforts to achieve personal goals
As a nation we need leaders of tomorrow who can live up to everyday challenges. Leaders who learn from failures and triumphs under hostile and competitive environments are what our nation is looking for. Our sponsors have enabled us achieve that today. A game of chess clearly demonstrates, teaches and provides methodologies of approaches or solutions to the realities of life.
I would like to urge all players to continue with the sport, young or old, to teach others as we embark to challenge the western world for dominance in this field.
